The Boston Bruins have been in existence since 1924, making them the oldest NHL franchise in the United States and the third-oldest professional hockey team ever. They’re also one of the famed “Original Six” franchises that made up the NHL from 1942 until the 1967 expansion. In addition to the Boston Bruins, the Original Six includes the Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Redwings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
On December 1, 1924, the Boston Bruins played their first National Hockey League game, defeating the Montreal Maroons at the Boston Arena by a 2-1 score. Since that first win, the Bruins have gone on to win six Stanley Cups, the second-most of any American NHL team, aside from the Blackhawks who also have six championships.
The 1970s were a golden era in the history of the Bruins franchise in large part because fans were fortunate enough to see hockey legend Bobby Orr in action. Orr set league records and thrilled fans with his on-ice maneuvering. Boston Bruins Ticket Holders also watched Orr’s teammate Phil Esposito become the first player in NHL history to score more than 100 goals in a single season. And if that weren’t enough, the Bruins’ iconic goaltender Gerry Cheevers seemed to stop everything that came his way.
As the 1970s gave way to the 1980s, these legendary players started to retire and the team had to rebuild. The 1990s were bittersweet years for Boston Bruins Ticket Holders, as the team said goodbye to their long-time home, the Boston Garden, and opened a new chapter in their history at TD Garden. As we enter the latter half of this decade, Boston Bruins fans can get their tickets from Golden Tickets and continue to watch this storied franchise make NHL history.
